Summer Field Day 2022 Schedule and information

Wyandotte County Lake Park, Kansas City KS

Main entrance to the park is at 91st St and Leavenworth Rd.


Earlybird registration is closed. Additional attendees are welcome but will need to pay the late registration fee at the event. 
 
Late registration (after June 20): $30

Schedule
Each session is presented in the morning and again in the afternoon.  Attendees will be able to hear all the speakers.
 
8:00 a.m. - Check-in/Registration
8:20 a.m. - Welcome and introductions, Skyler Delmott, KAA President
 
Morning Sessions:
8:30- 10:30 a.m. - Equipment maintenance or Tree health
10:30 to 11:30 a.m. - Oak & pine diseases
11:30 to 12:30 p.m. - Lunch and visit vendors
                                            
Afternoon Sessions:
12:30- 1:30 p.m. - Oak & pine diseases
1:30 -3:30 p.m. - Equipment maintenance or tree health
3:30-4:30 p.m. - Visit with vendors

​Sessions and Speakers

Tree Health Sessions: 

Trees and PGR’s - Plant Growth Regulators (PGRs) are a powerful tool in the arborists’ toolbox for managing a range of health and plant growth issues. You will learn about what types of PGRs are available and how they can be used. We’ll look at materials that will inhibit the growth or size of trees, materials that will reduce certain plant parts from developing, and how each of these may be used to improve plant health.

Speaker: Chris Haugen, Rainbow Ecoscience.  Chris has managed field research trials and provided technical training and support for tree care companies across the United States. He holds a bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies from St. John’s University and completed graduate work at the University of Minnesota in Applied Plant Sciences.
 
Managing Bur Oak Blight - This session will discuss the signs and symptoms of BOB, the timing for treatment and the differences between BOB and Oak Wilt as well as how plant growth regulators can help.
 
Speaker: Jay Goughnour, Upper Midwest Technical Manager for Arborjet.  He has over 20 years of experience in the green industry, has been a Golf Course Superintendent and even owned a golf course.  He provides technical support and plant health care solutions to customers.
 
Oak and Pine Diseases - This session will cover several oak and pine diseases that are common in Kansas. You will learn how to recognize and manage these problems.
 
Speaker: Judy O’Mara, Director of the K-State Plant Disease Diagnostic Lab at Kansas State University.  She has more than 33 years experience with plant disease diagnostics.  She also does extension outreach and teaches a course in Landscape Diseases to horticulture students.

Equipment Maintenance Sessions
 
Top 10 Trouble Shooting Tips - Maintenance and safety tips to increase the longevity and efficiency of your chippers. 
Speakers: 
Paul Kear, Fairbank Equipment and David Payne, KC Bobcat
 
Maintenance Overview of Vermeer Equipment -  Maintenance overview of chippers, stump grinders and mini skid loaders.
Speaker: Chris Mars, Service Manager for Vermeer of Olathe
