Wednesday Speaker:

Wood Decay Fungi and Testing Trees for Decay, Christopher Luley, Ph.D.

Dr. Luley's graduate degrees are in Forest Pathology from the State University of New York - College of Environmental Science and Forestry at Syracuse and Iowa State University.

Dr. Luley has published over 30 technical articles and given presentations on a wide range of urban forestry and pathology topics. He has recently published two books—one on the decay fungi of urban trees and one on Pest Management in the Landscape.

Thursday and Friday Speakers:

Dr. Christopher Luley (speaker from Wednesday) will also present a session on Tree Risk Assessment on Thursday morning.

Don Blair
Blair is one of the best known and respected arborists in the country, well known for his work with The M.F. Blair Tree Experts company, his work at Monticello, his book Arborist Equipment, and his arborist equipment and supply company, Sierra Moreno Mercantile Company. Blair will present sessions on both Thursday and Friday and will give a special presentation on Thursday evening at the banquet.

Peter Gerstenberger
Gerstenberger is Senior Advisor for Safety, Compliance & Standards for Tree Care Industry Association. He started with TCIA, which was then the National Arborist Association, over 24 years ago as Administrative Assistant to then-EVP Bob Felix. He is responsible for much of the safety training that NAA and TCIA have created over the years, and he has served on the ANSI Z133 committee for over 20 years. Most recently he helped to start and is in charge of the Certified Treecare Safety Professional program, or CTSP. He currently works with federal OSHA as well as several State Plan OSHAs such as California, Maryland, Michigan and Virginia to create effective and responsible regulation for arborists.

Joe Marshall
Marshall is senior operations manager for ACRT, Inc., an independent utility vegetation management consulting firm. He will speak about effective communication and conflict resolution between landowners and utility arborists.

We are also pleased to welcome Dr. Raymond Cloyd and Dr. Megan Kennelly for insect and disease updates, and the Kansas Department of Agriculture for an update and review of Kansas Pesticide law and regulations.
